Per State law, residents must separate their trash into three separate containers provided by Athens Services. Residential collection service consists of three automated containers for recycling, trash, and organics waste.
Black Containers (Trash)
Black containers are for the collection of non-recyclable waste including: bathroom waste, candy bar wrappers, chip bags, cigarette butts, diapers, disposable gloves, foam, packaging peanuts, palm fronds, pet waste, plastic bags, cacti and succulents, yucca leaves and other solid waste materials considered to be no longer of use.
Green Containers (Organic Waste)
Green containers are for the collection of yard trimmings and food scraps including: all fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy, and food soiled paper products that are 100% fiber-based; grass clippings, leaves, brush, branches, tree trimmings, sawdust, and other forms of organic materials generated from landscapes or gardens that are less than 4 feet in length.
NO: palm fronds, yucca leaves, cacti, succulents, dirt, sand, stones, concrete, building materials, or trash. If placed in the green container, it will be tagged and will not be serviced until contamination is removed.
Blue Containers (Recyclables)
Blue containers are for the collection of recyclables including: plastic containers, cardboard, newspaper, office paper, junk mail, magazines, envelopes, paperback books, paper grocery bags, wrapping paper, clean aluminum foil, glass bottles and jars, cans (aluminum, bi-metal, and tin cans), scrap metal, coat hangers, milk cartons, aseptic containers and juice boxes.
DO NOT PLACE IN CONTAINERS:
State law prohibits the disposal of hazardous material into your containers. For proper disposal options, view here.
Athens Services also ask that you do not place bulky items, construction debris, electronic waste, or automotive parts in your containers. For bulky items disposal options view here.
Ordering Additional Containers
