The City of South El Monte’s residential trash hauler provider is Athens Services.

If your trash collection day falls on or after a holiday during the week, your pick-up day will be delayed by one day. Athens Services does not operate on the following holidays:
To ensure your trash is collected, please make sure your containers are placed at the curbside by 6 am on the scheduled collection day. Your trash containers must be within the weight of 50 pounds. Once your household trash has been collected, please remove your containers from the curb.
Athens Services will not pick up E-Waste (Electronic Waste) and Household Hazardous Waste.
Once a year, Athens Services hosts an annual residential trash clean up week "Spring Clean-Up Week" to dispose of unusual large items, such as couches, toilets, and refrigerators, that cannot be picked up by Athens Services’ weekly waste pick up.
Athens Services provides bulky item pickup for residents. The first bulky item is $25, and $15 each additional item, plus taxes and fees. Please submit your bulky item request at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled collection at 1-855-557-1007.
This service is for residents of the City of South El Monte only. Residents in unincorporated County areas will not receive this service as they are assigned a different hauler.
Trees are 100% recyclable! Athens Services collects holiday trees on your normal pickup days from the day after Christmas through the second week of January each year. Trees are delivered to various landfills to be used as mulch or cover material or cover material or to Athens American Organics composting facility in Victorville.
Remove stands, ornaments, lights and tinsel. Place Christmas trees next to your regular trash containers. Trees over 6 feet in length must be cut in half. Trees with flocking or fire retardants are acceptable.
Assembly Bill (AB) 341 (PDF) requires all businesses and apartments units with 5 or more units to implement a recycling program. AB 1826 (PDF) requires all businesses and multifamily complexes to recycle their organic waste.
